McCarthy Consulting Group offers leaders an opportunity to experiment with theories, ideas, and behaviors in private to prepare and support them leading meaningful inquiry and action within their organizations.

Advisory relationship
As a leader's area of responsibility grows their ability to think and speak spontaneously within their organization becomes more challenging.  In an attempt to avoid unintended consequences leaders find themselves trying to work through complex issues regarding strategy, direction, allocation of resources and leadership team dynamics with fewer and fewer perspectives.

Achieving a breakthrough requires tenacity, hard work and the capacity to remain open and committed in the face of ‘failed experiments.’ We must master three competencies to generate a breakthrough: vision, planning and discipline.
— Patrick O’Neill, founder, “Extraordinary Conversations”

Finding individuals within their own team that are capable of operating free from conflicts of interest or competing commitments is likely impossible. With the speed and complexity of today’s global environment, independent advisors and the perspective they offer have never been more critical.

We offer leaders a relationship they can rely on for direct and unguarded feedback, freedom and trust to take risks of thought and exploration, and expertise in areas different from their own.

Leader Development
When changes in the environment, business objectives, or team dynamics occur, successful leaders adapt to meet the current challenges.  As a leader’s career advances the challenges and the barriers to higher levels of performance tend to focus on behavior during interpersonal and organizational engagements.  For a variety of reasons the direct and specific feedback necessary to make progress in these areas typically becomes more infrequent, more unreliable, and less specific leaving leaders with the difficulty of trying to decide  what behavioral changes to make and how best to go about it.

While formal training is an integral part of most leadership development programs, many leaders we have spoken with readily admit they run into difficulty when trying to apply their new knowledge or skills in the context of their day to day responsibilities. This is the greatest obstacle to focused and rapid development.  Working one on one with a coach offers leaders the personal and immediate feedback that helps them maintain a disciplined and committed structure to enhance their capabilities, develop new skills, and make sustainable behavioral changes.

Using behavioral diagnostics, observation of leaders as they work with their teams, and our “in-the-moment” experience of leaders, we identify very specific examples of an individual’s leadership approach that supports their objectives as well as opportunities for behavioral changes that would increase their potential and the potential of their organization.

Opportunities to engage us:
“There is a lot riding on this and the organization is counting on me to get this right, but the demands on my time are inhibiting me from being able to think about it with the appropriate amount of focus.”

“I am capable of leading the necessary initiative, but how might I accelerate the process or enable significantly better results if I thought through my options with someone else.”

“I am not getting feedback that I need to develop the next set of leaders in the organization.  I think I am doing that but it must not be coming through.  What do I need to do differently to be more effective?”
